Law, a dynamic concept, which evolved gradually from primitive to modern society. This is question is simple but at the same time difficult to answer as it is differs from one man to another. Historically speaking, law was considered as ‘dharma’ in Hindu system, in Islamic system it is ‘Hukum’, in Roman it is ‘jus’, in French it is ‘droit’. Law was in existence since the birth of the society. They both corresponds each other. It changes as the society moves from one phase to the other. Some advocates that law is the body of principles recognized and applied by the State in the administration of justice whereas some concur to the view that law is the command of God and not of any political superior. In my opinion it is tool to measure the standards of what is right or wrong, a code of conduct, a set of rules.

Law is an institution through which human conduct and behaviour in a society is regulated. It serves various functions like social change, dispute resolution, social control, etc. So, it basically denotes various kinds of rules which any person being subjected to it has to abide by, abject failure of which results in penal or civil consequences and liabilities, depending upon the nature of violation. It is sourced in statutes, customs, constitution, precedents, treaties and conventions, which in turn makes it easier to establish principles for any given society.

As per Austin Law is a command of soverign backed by sanction . It is a dynamic concept and everyone follows the law which is passed by the parliament. In our society all individuals follow law as it is a essential ingridient of our live without it there will be no resolution of dispute can be done and if some person committ an offence then no one will have the right to punish him if there is no law.It is important to follow the law so that everyone has the right to be punished and can know his right if he or she does not follow the law. If there is no law then there will be a violation of principle of natural justice against whom the crime has been committed.

In a society most people recognise that there must be rules regulating their interactions to keep society operating properly.

To be effective, these rules need to be generally recognised and accepted by members of society.

These rules create rights and responsibilities for society members.

Enforcement of these rules are collectively known as law.
